Las Vegas officials highlight traffic alert program in Washington

Updated August 28, 2017 - 8:51 pm

A Las Vegas pilot program where fleet vehicles receive alerts about upcoming road conditions was being highlighted in Washington, D.C., on Monday, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology Global City Team Challenge.

Officials from the city of Las Vegas, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada and the GENIVI Alliance were highlighting the yearlong Las Vegas program that sends alerts to technology-equipped fleet vehicles to make drivers aware of road conditions, aimed at improving traffic and pedestrian safety. The sensors within the city’s infrastructure that communicate with the equipped vehicles are also collecting data that can be used in city planning in the future.

The pilot is focused in the Las Vegas Innovation District, a technological testing ground the city designated last year.
