Pedestrian reported dead by police lives, remains hospitalized

A pedestrian hit by a car Thursday afternoon on Tropicana Avenue at Decatur Boulevard remained hospitalized Friday.

Las Vegas police had mistakenly reported the pedestrian died Thursday.

“I’m not going to make excuses,” Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said. “There was a mishap in communication.”

The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a pedestrian in a crosswalk was hit by a Toyota Corolla making a right turn from Decatur Boulevard. The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center Trauma in critical condition.
It is unclear who is at fault for the wreck, which is still under investigation. Police have not issued any charges or citations.
Las Vegas police said a miscommunication error happened because of another traffic fatality in the valley at roughly the same time.
