Pedestrian hit by RTC bus in northeast Las Vegas dies

Updated April 25, 2017 - 3:21 pm

One man is dead after he was hit by a Regional Transportation Commission bus in northeast Las Vegas on Tuesday morning.

The crash happened about 2:40 a.m. close to 3640 Las Vegas Blvd. North, near the intersection at North Lamb Boulevard.

Evidence at the scene and video footage from the RTC bus showed the 60-year-old pedestrian was standing in Las Vegas Boulevard’s right northbound lane when the bus driving north hit him, the Metropolitan Police Department said. He later died at University Medical Center.

Metro Sgt. Paul McCullough said the RTC driver, who wasn’t suspected of impairment, remained on the scene and would not be cited or charged.

There were a number of passengers on board at the time of the crash, McCullough said. They left before detectives arrived.

Las Vegas Boulevard was temporarily closed in both directions between North Walnut Road and Lamb while officers investigated the crash.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the pedestrian when his family is notified of his death.

This is the 43rd traffic fatality investigated by Metro in 2017.
