North Las Vegas police investigate car pulled from park pond

A vehicle was found in a pond near Cheyenne Avenue and Commerce Street Monday morning, according to North Las Vegas police.

Police discovered a Toyota Corolla submerged in a pond at City View Park, after responding to an anonymous phone call about 6 a.m.

According to police, the car was traveling on Cheyenne Avenue at high speed when it left the road, hit a median and catapulted into the air. The Corolla then broke through a chain-link fence, took out a large tree branch, and landed in the pond approximately 120 feet from the street.

The driver fled the scene, police said. They recovered the vehicle and found a plastic bag containing a green plant substance in the trunk.

Park maintenance workers emptied the pond to search the bottom and drain off contaminated water.
