Emo bands play Pearl at Palms

Emo has ceased to a be a genre mainly because it now encompasses so many of them.

There’s emo hip-hop, emo pop and punk, and as Coheed & Cambria and Killswitch Engage demonstrate, there’s also emo prog and emo metal, respectively.

Coheed & Cambria favors elaborate, Rush-indebted tunes that you still can sing along to, while Killswitch tempers brusque metal-core with touches of gut bucket melody and lots of songs about the girl who got away. Think Fall Out Boy with lots more hair on their chests.

See them at 7 p.m. at The Pearl at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo. Tickets are $26; call 942-7777.
