Motorcyclist killed in I-15 accident on Sunday identified

The Clark County coroner’s office identified a motorcyclist killed in a freeway crash early Sunday morning.

John William Shonts III, 34, of Las Vegas, died after striking a vehicle that collided with another car, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

A Saturn sedan struck a Chevy Tahoe about 2:45 a.m. in the right lanes of Interstate 15, near the Sahara exit. The Tahoe spun out of control and hit the median. Shonts’ motorcycle hit the Tahoe.

His female passenger was injured and remains in critical condition at University Medical Center

The drivers of the sedan and Tahoe were not injured, and one citation was issued for failure to maintain lanes, highway patrol said.

Shonts died from multiple blunt force injuries and motor vehicle collision and manner of death was ruled accidental, according to the coroner’s office.
