The 21-year-old Henderson man who was found dead along with his estranged wife after a shootout with police killed himself, the Clark County coroner’s office determined.
Andres Avitia died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the neck and head, said Assistant Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg.
Avitia and his estranged 21-year-old wife, Naira Villarreal-Gonzalez, were found dead in a bedroom at a house near College Way and Boulder Highway Wednesday after Avitia was involved in a shooting with six Henderson police officers.
The coroner’s office last week found that Villarreal-Gonzalez died from multiple gunshot and stab wounds.
The officers fired their guns through a closed door but Henderson Police Chief Richard Perkins said previously the officers’ bullets didn’t kill Villarreal-Gonzalez.
One officer, Joe Yzaguirre, was shot during the exchange of gunfire with Avitia. Yzaguirre, 47, was treated at a local hospital and released.
