LV woman arrested in fatal hit and run

Dana Mandell was arrested early Wednesday for driving under the influence for the second time in a year and half, according to Las Vegas police.

The first incident resulted in a wreck. Wednesday’s incident cost a man his life, police said.

Daniel William Baird of Seattle was crossing Paradise Road at Naples Drive when a 2004 Dodge Dakota heading south on Paradise hit him, police said. Baird, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dakota didn’t stop, police said. But the front right tire was damaged and eventually the Dakota broke down on the Las Vegas Beltway near the McCarran International Airport Connector, police said.

There, police found Mandell, 27, of Las Vegas. She was charged with driving under the influence and hit and run.

Police said Mandell was arrested in December 2005 for driving under the influence.
