Leaping deer interrupts Nevada governor’s walk to work

CARSON CITY — It’s not cars that Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval needs to look out for on his walk to work — it’s flying deer.

A Nevada Appeal photographer caught the moment when a deer leaped over a short fence Wednesday morning just feet in front of the governor.

Sandoval had been walking from the Governor’s Mansion to his office in the Capitol as part of the fifth annual Nevada Moves Day, sponsored by the state Department of Transportation.

Schoolchildren were encouraged to get to school on foot as part of the initiative, which aims to highlight the benefits of walkable communities, increased physical activity and reduced traffic congestion.
