Man dies after car rams into light pole
A Las Vegas man has died after losing control of his vehicle and crashing it into a light pole, Las Vegas police said.
The accident occurred Wednesday night on Stephanie Street near Hacienda Avenue, police said.
The man, who wasn’t identified, was heading north about 11:50 p.m. on Stephanie in a 2003 Mazda Protege, driving at a high rate of speed, police said.
The driver attempted to turn left onto Hacienda and lost control of the Mazda, which then struck the light pole.
Authorities took the man to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said it was the driver’s speed that caused the crash.

Coroner identifies inmate found dead
The 44-year-old inmate who was found dead in the North Las Vegas jail on Wednesday was Larry Richard, the Clark County coroner’s office reported.
Richard, of North Las Vegas, was booked into the jail on Tuesday. Authorities said they found him unresponsive in his cell about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and took him to North Vista Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
North Las Vegas police said it appeared that Richard died of natural causes, but the coroner’s office hadn’t yet determined how he died.
JEWELRY STORE ROBBERY Fourth suspect in failed heist surrenders
A fourth suspect has turned himself in following a failed robbery attempt at a jewelry store on Tuesday, an incident that police say left one of the robbers dead.
Stephone Whitney, 17, surrendered to Las Vegas police at the Downtown Area Command at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police arrested 24-year-old Thurman Hall and 19-year-old Miya Mason on Tuesday and booked them into the Clark County Detention Center on numerous charges, including murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.
Police say Whitney, Hall and Mason were with Gregory Ford, 23, on Tuesday when the group tried to rob the Gold Doctor jewelry store on Mojave Road near Charleston Boulevard. A store employee shot and killed Ford during the attempted robbery, police said.
Whitney was expected to face charges similar to those filed against Hall and Mason, but the specific counts listed against him were not available late Thursday.
