IN BRIEF

CENTRAL VALLEY SHOOTING

Man, 20, killed at apartment complex

A 20-year-old man was killed Saturday morning after an argument in a central valley apartment complex courtyard escalated into gunfire, police said.

Police were called to the scene, at 1065 Lisbon Ave., near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn Road, after neighbors reported hearing gunshots around 10:25 a.m., said Las Vegas police Lt. Lew Roberts.

Police had not located any witnesses to the shooting, but detectives believe the victim and his male acquaintances got into a dispute before several shots were fired, Roberts said.

The victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died a short time later of multiple gunshot wounds.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim pending notification of his next of kin.

Police had no suspects in the case. Residents at the apartment complex told police they saw a beige or brown four-door vehicle leave the scene, Roberts said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Las Vegas police homicide detectives at 828-3521.

BELTWAY ACCIDENT

Man dies after car crashes into another

A man died early Saturday after crashing his Mercedes into a PT Cruiser on the Las Vegas Beltway near Pecos Road in the southeast valley.

Trooper Kevin Honea of the Nevada Highway Patrol said the driver of the Mercedes entered the highway at Eastern Avenue around 3:09 a.m., traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. Witnesses said the man crashed into the back of the PT Cruiser, causing both cars to spin, Honea said.

The Mercedes ran off the highway, hit a guardrail and overturned on the rocks that border the freeway. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Honea said.

A passenger in the Mercedes was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The PT Cruiser came to a stop in one of the highway’s travel lanes, and the vehicle’s male driver was unharmed, Honea said.

No citations had been issued, and the crash remained under investigation. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the driver pending notification of his next of kin.

SILVERADO RANCH CRASH

Las Vegan, 69, killed in U-turn attempt

A 69-year-old Las Vegan died Saturday after being hit while attempting a U-turn on Silverado Ranch Boulevard, just past Arville Street.

The Las Vegan was driving a 2000 Chrysler Sebring about 7:03 p.m. Friday westbound on Silverado Ranch, which dead ends 675 feet past Arville, police said. As the motorist attempted a U-turn, a 2006 Ford F-150, driven by John Obeslo, 45, of Henderson, slammed into the driver’s side of the Sebring.

Police said the westbound pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Obeslo was taken to University Medical Center, where he was in serious condition late Saturday.

Preliminary evidence indicated that speed and alcohol contributed to the collision, police said. No charges had been filed pending further investigation.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the driver who died pending notification of next of kin.
