DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CALL

Las Vegas police fired upon at apartments

Las Vegas police were fired upon after responding to a domestic violence call about 10 p.m. Saturday to an apartment complex on Cambridge Street near Maryland Parkway.

Police did not return fire.

Police said no officers were injured.

The SWAT team had been called out, a perimenter had been set up and the apartment complex — the Katie Arms Apartments at 3890 Cambridge St. — was evacuated as the negotiations began with whoever shot at the them.

Few other details were available late Saturday night.

VALLEY ROADWAYS

Two people killed in separate crashes

Two people were killed in separate single-vehicle wrecks on valley highways early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The first wreck occurred about 4 a.m., when a motorcyclist crashed on U.S. Highway 95, just south of Ann Road, said trooper Kevin Honea of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was taken to University Medical Center, where he died about 11 a.m., Honea said.

The second crash happened just after 7 a.m. on Summerlin Parkway near Town Center Drive.

Honea said a Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible left the roadway, entered the center median and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The 19-year-old woman driving the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene, Honea said.

She was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of both wrecks remained under investigation.

The identities of those killed were not released Saturday.
