Escaped prisoner shot seven times

An autopsy revealed an escaped prisoner shot and killed Wednesday by a Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy was hit by seven bullets, three of which were considered fatal, authorities said.

The deputy shot at the prisoner after the prisoner fired at him, authorities said.

Sgt. Doug Schuster and Deputy Quint Oller were searching for escaped prisoners Steven Wusstig and Raymond Coleman in Kingman, Ariz., about 4:45 p.m. when they heard two gun shots, according to Bullhead City, Ariz., police.

Schuster returned fire, discharging his gun eight times, police said. Wusstig was found shot seven times and dead at the scene, police said.

Near Wusstig were two .22 caliber shell casings and a .22 caliber target pistol, police said.

Coleman was not located.
