Namesake’s passion for helping special-needs children lives on

Helen Jydstrup, an educator of physically handicapped children and those with special needs in Las Vegas for 23 years, is said to have been a teacher’s teacher, one who served as a model for others. “She was the consummate teacher,” said Helen Jydstrup Elementary School’s principal David Frydman.

APPLE Partnership honors Henderson’s top readers

At an end-of-the-year celebration, the city of Henderson recognized students who accumulated reading hours through its APPLE Partnership, which promotes literacy among students.

Libraries strive to keep kids reading all summer

The dreaded “summer slide” refers to the learning loss that occurs during the few months kids are out of school. The Las Vegas-Clark County and North Las Vegas library districts and Henderson District Public Libraries are looking to combat that slide and keep kids engaged in learning by offering incentive-based summer reading programs for young children, teens and adults.
