Las Vegas elementary schoolteacher charged with child abuse
A first-grade teacher at an east Las Vegas elementary school was arrested on a child abuse charge, police announced Wednesday.
Suzanna Raygoza-Rosen, 34, was arrested Tuesday after the family of a 6-year-old boy at Cunningham Elementary School complained about injuries in November.
“The investigation revealed that Ms. Rosen physically grabbed the student as a result of him not complying with her direction,” Clark County School District Police Capt. Ken Young said.
Other students in the class witnessed the incident, he added. Raygoza-Rosen has been “assigned to home” since November, while the investigation was ongoing at the school, 4145 Jimmy Durante Blvd. She was hired by the district in 2007.
She was charged with one count of felony child abuse, making her the third teacher this year arrested on a child abuse charge and the tenth district employee arrested overall.
Kathryn Navrides, a special education teacher at Deskin Elementary School, was arrested in August after she was accused of shaking and leaving marks on a student who was having a tantrum in April.
Theodore Levrich, a former teacher’s assistant at French Elementary School, was arrested in November on suspicion on battering two young students.
