Faith Lutheran cancels school Friday due to coronavirus worry

Faith Lutheran Middle and High School will be closed Friday because of coronavirus concerns involving a “member of the Faith Family.”

The school tweeted a statement from CEO Steven Buuck that said the member of the Faith family on Thursday had visited a doctor, who sent the person to be tested for COVID-19.

“The health care facility they went to did not have any tests, and it was recommended that this person stay home until symptoms improve instead,” Buuck said in the message to parents. “While the sick person is not a positive case at this time, out of an abundance of care, school is cancelled tomorrow (Friday, March 13)”

The tweet also noted that the school would provide an update to parents with parents early next week with an update.

Faith Lutheran announced in email from Buuck earlier Thursday that school was canceled Monday.

“We will use Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17 (already scheduled as a day off for professional development) to allow all teachers two full days of additional training for the possibility of online instruction,” according to the earlier email to parents obtained by the Review-Journal.

When students return on Wednesday, the school plans “to help train our students on their devices should we have a need to go fully online.”

The school also said that overnight trips are suspended until at least April 14, and that all middle school and high school athletic games are suspended until further notice.

Athletic practices and musical rehearsals will take place “as long as school is in session on campus,” the update said.

Practices may be held on Monday and Tuesday, and said students should check with their coach or adviser, it said.
