design Scholarship available
for aRchitecture students

Three V Enterprises is accepting applications for the Student AquaTekture Design Competition and Scholarship. The scholarship is open to students enrolled in a college, university or vocational school. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1. Three V Enterprises hosts the annual Global AquaTekture Visionary Awards that recognizes individuals and companies that use water creatively as a main architectural feature. The scholarship “will be awarded to the student who demonstrates a promising future in integrative design or architecture and has a genuine interest in architecture, interior design, engineering, landscape design, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), product or (Computer-aided Design) relating to AquaTekture.” The winner will receive a monetary scholarship and other prizes, and the design will be showcased at the Global AquaTekture Visionary Awards.

spread the word nevada hosting annual fundraising gala

Spread the Word Nevada is scheduled to host its 10th Anniversary Storybook Gala at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at The Venetian. The Storybook Gala, “One Enchanted Evening,” is the foundation’s largest annual fundraising event. The event will feature silent and live auctions, prize drawings, entertainment and dinner. Spread the Word Nevada is a nonprofit group that donates books to disadvantaged children to help them create home libraries. Since 2001, nearly 200,000 local students have received more than 1.7 million books. Individual seats are $250, and various sponsorship levels are available.

Help college-bound students
by donating laptops, business attire

The Epicurean Charitable Foundation Las Vegas is accepting donations of new and gently used laptops and new professional business attire for outgoing high school seniors attending college this fall.

ECFLV will collect laptops and clothing through July at the following locations: Epicurean Charitable Foundation, 3765 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 1; Wicked Creative, 6149 S. Rainbow Blvd.; and Sting Systems, 5 Longevity Drive in Henderson.

School District provides online resources for summer learning

Summer educational activities for kids are available at ccsd.net/learn. The online guides provide grade-appropriate activities for parents and children to work on together to help reinforce the previous year’s lessons. The guides provide recommendations for reading, math and online resources and are available in English and Spanish.

School district seeking
scholarship funds for students

The Clark County School District is seeking local donors to help more students pay for college next year. Any businesses or individuals interested in providing scholarship funds for students are asked to call Kim Boyle of CCSD’s Curriculum and Professional Development office at 799-8441 or Kelly Grimm of the Public Education Foundation at 221-7421.

Local graduates received nearly $150 million in scholarship offers this year, not including the Millennium Scholarship fund.

Nevada Virtual Academy
enrolling for fall

Nevada Virtual Academy, an online public charter school, is enrolling students for the 2011-12 school year.

NVVA offers curriculum for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. English, math, science, history, music and art courses are at the elementary and middle school levels. The high school program offers more than 200 core, elective and Advanced Placement courses, including foreign language.

The Medical Skills for Life Institute is offering 10 $2,000 scholarships and 10 $500 tuition grants to the first 20 students who are enrolled and accepted to the institute through Sept. 1. These scholarships are for people looking to become medical assistants or phlebotomists.

Arbor View High School band fundraising to play in nation’s capital

The band from Arbor View High School, 500 Whispering Sands Drive, has been invited to march in the May 2012 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C., and play at Carnegie Hall in New York City the same month.

The AVHS Band Boosters is asking the community for donations to help send the more than 100 band members on the trips.

University of Southern Nevada becomes Roseman University of Health Sciences

The University of Southern Nevada became Roseman University of Health Sciences, named after founding president Harry Rosenberg and College of Pharmacy dean Renee Coffman.

enrollment event july 28

The Goddard School, 2680 Pecos Ridge Parkway, is scheduled to host an enrollment event from 5 to 8 p.m. July 28 at JumpFit Kids, 10950 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 110. Parents will receive 50 percent off the first month’s tuition if they enroll at this event.

The school can accommodate about 130 kids from 6 weeks to 6 years old and will offer flexible schedules from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
