Bank of Nevada will donate $15,000 for scholarships

Bank of Nevada will donate $15,000 over the next five years for scholarships at the Southwest Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas, Bank of Nevada CEO and President John Guedry said Tuesday.

Guedry told about 100 employees and clients at Bank of Nevada’s quarterly luncheon held at the magnet school that the first $3,000 scholarship would be awarded this year. The Southwest Career and Technical Academy opened in 2009 with a ninth- and 10th-grade class.

The school offers 11 distinct program areas, including culinary arts, certified nursing assistant, video game technologies and Web design. Principal Felicia Nemcek said a majority of students also hold down internships after school. Contact reporter Chris Sieroty at csieroty@reviewjournal.com or 702-477-3893.
