FALLON — The drought is prompting the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District to cut water allotments to Fallon-area farmers.
The district board plans to vote at a special meeting Tuesday on a plan to drop the water allotment to 45 percent, with a cutoff date of July 15.
The Lahontan Valley News reported the district plans to pull back its allotment from 50 percent to 45 percent to stay within its ability to fill late-season water orders for wildlife and fish at Lahontan Reservoir and Fallon-area wetlands.
District President Ernie Schank said both the Carson and Truckee divisions will share responsibility for securing water for wildlife.
He said water users who have already used their 45 percent allotment will not be allowed to order water.
