One person died and two others were injured after a car struck a tree Monday night at Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard North.

A 2004 Ford Mustang was eastbound on Cheyenne at a high rate of speed about 11:15 p.m. when Anthony Eric James, 26, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree in the Cheyenne Plaza parking lot, just east of Las Vegas Boulevard, according to Las Vegas police.

Three people were thrown from the car. James, of Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passengers, a 25-year-old male and a 23-year-old female, were taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
