DRI unveils solar array on Reno campus

RENO — Solar panels have been installed on the rooftops and in the parking lot of the Desert Research Institute in Reno.

Officials said the solar array will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.8 million pounds of carbon annually, save the facility $80,000 a year in electrical costs and create seven full-time jobs.

The panels were announced Monday.

The 437-kilowatt project was partially funded through a five-year $300,000 loan from the Governor’s Office of Energy.

The revolving loan program provides funding for projects that develop or expand renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, conservation, and manufacturing of components for renewable energy systems in Nevada.
