Vegas misses record highs; temps to drop more quickly

A drop in temperatures means the Las Vegas Valley won’t come close to reaching record highs on Thursday as forecasters predicted.

Temperatures will peak at 67 degrees Thursday, seven degrees shy of the 74-degree record, according to the National Weather Service. Partly sunny skies will accompany the lower-than-expected temperatures.

Expect high temperatures to dip about another 10 degrees, into the 50s by Friday, Weather Service meteorologist Jim Harrison said. And high temperatures in the 50s will hold through the weekend.

Cloud cover will increase and mostly cloudy skies are forecast through the weekend.

On Friday, the official chance for rain is 50 percent. But Harrison said the valley will see “something.”

That precipitation will bring snow to the Spring Mountains.

“The mountains will get some snow later tonight and tomorrow,” Harrison said. He estimated 1 to 3 inches would fall.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
