Storm brings rain, quick moving clouds to west valley

Late showers doused the west valley Saturday and wind gusts reached 40 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The rain, which started about 8:30 p.m., was expected to pass through the entire valley by about 10:30 p.m., said meteorologist Dan Berc.

Temperatures in the west valley were in the mid-80s on Saturday night, roughly 10 degrees cooler than mid-90s in the central and east valley, Berc said.

But the next few days are going to be hot, calm and sunny in Las Vegas, according to the weather service.

Saturday’s mostly sunny conditions brought a high of 104 degrees to the primary monitoring site at McCarran International Airport, NWS said.

Triple-digit highs are not unusual for this time of year, the weather service said. The valley saw such a cool May that the heat might feel unusual, but it’s nowhere near the 114-degree record, he added.

Nighttime conditions until Sunday morning were forecast to dip to the low 80s, meteorologist Caleb Steele said.

Conditions on Saturday were a lot like Friday’s, but warmer, Steele said.

Things will start to dry out Sunday, when highs are expected to peak about 105 degrees, Steele said.

Monday and Tuesday will see highs of about 107 degrees and nighttime lows in the low 80s. Monday evening into Tuesday could see 15 mph breezes with gusts up to 20 mph.
