Record cold could arrive in Las Vegas this weekend
Saturday and Sunday’s cool weather may set temperature records for the Las Vegas Valley.
Chelsea Kryston, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Saturday’s high temperature is projected to be 48 degrees with a low of 33 degrees. That forecasted high temperature is just off the record low high of 47 degrees set in 2006.
“It (the record) is within a degree right now of our forecast,” Kryston said.
Sunday could be a record setter, too. The record low high temperature is 51 degrees set in 2004. The projected high temperature on Sunday, meanwhile, is 51 degrees.
“Sunday is a possible low high record,” Kryston said, adding the low for Sunday is 38 degrees.
The good news is that the precipitation that fell throughout Las Vegas Thursday night into Friday has cleared out. More rain is not expected until another system arrives in Southern Nevada by next Wednesday. Winds throughout the week are expected to be light to moderate well into next week.
The cold follows on the heels of a Thanksgiving rainstorm that soaked the area with 0.6 of an inch of rain in the northwest to a 0.25 of an inch in Boulder City and Henderson.
Sporadic snow showers added to the snowfall totals in the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range. The Spring Mountains received from 7 to 10 inches in the 24 hours ending at midnight Thursday with most of that from noon to midnight, the National Weather Service said.
The storm totals ranged from 14 to 20 inches since snow started falling Wednesday.
