Rain expected in Vegas Valley, snow in mountains

Don’t let sunny Saturday trick you into getting your car washed because rain is coming soon to Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

There is between a 60 and 70 percent chance of rain and showers around the valley beginning late Sunday morning and into Monday, the weather service said.

Though temperatures reached about 70 degrees on Saturday, they won’t reach higher than 60 until Wednesday, the weather service said.

While rain falls in the valley, the Spring Mountains, Red Rock Canyon and Sheep Mountains will likely get snow, meteorologist Dan Berc said.

How much snow? Enough for the weather service to issue a winter storm warning from Saturday until about 4 p.m. Monday. About 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected to accumulate above 5,000 feet, Berc said.

Monday will be cooler than usual, Berc said, with temperatures reaching a high of 48 degrees at higher-elevation areas such as Summerlin in the north and Anthem in the south.

Mostly sunny conditions should return Tuesday and Wednesday when highs are expected to reach 55 and 58.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
