Las Vegas Valley stays hot, fire weather watch coming Tuesday

Updated July 14, 2019 - 9:21 pm

The Las Vegas Valley will stay hot and sunny this week, according to the National Weather Service. And conditions may get gusty Tuesday.

The weather service issued a fire weather watch for Clark and Lincoln counties for Tuesday due to strong winds and low humidity, with the eastern portions of both counties most likely to be affected.

Winds between 20 and 25 mph are possible Monday, and winds upward of 25 or 30 mph are possible on Tuesday, the weather service said. Also, humidity is expected to drop below 10 percent.

“Due to elevated afternoon winds and critical fuel dryness, any fires that develop will be able to spread rapidly,” the agency said in a statement. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.”

Sunday’s high hit 110 degrees, falling just short of matching Saturday for the hottest day of the year so far.

Monday should kick off the week with a high near 109 followed by a high near 108 on Tuesday, the weather service said.

Winds will drop off Tuesday night, and the valley should stay calm, dry and clear for the rest of the week. The weather service expected temperatures to reach a 106 on Wednesday and 105 on Thursday and Friday.

The typical high for this time of year is about 105, the weather service said.
