Las Vegas valley in for a cold day, even colder night

Prepare for another cold one, Las Vegas.

The thermometer on Sunday afternoon is not expected to rise above 45 degrees, which is about 10 degrees below average, National Weather Service meteorologist Chad Shafer said.

You might want to stop reading here if that’s too cold for your comfort, because overnight temperatures should dip into the 28-degrees range, Shafer said.

Western and southern Clark County, excluding the Las Vegas Valley, as well as southern Nye County and Mohave County were placed under a hard freeze warning, Shafer said. Temperatures there can drop below 20 degrees.

Hard freeze conditions are deadly for plants, and dangerous for pets and for water pipes that can burst if left uncovered, Shafer said.

Other areas not under the hard freeze warning are still set to experience below-freezing temperatures, Shafer said. So you’re not in the clear, Las Vegas.

Monday’s forecast 45-degrees high and 33-degrees low should not warm the valley much.
