Las Vegas Valley can expect rain, clouds in first week of 2016
The first week of the new year will be marked by rain and clouds in the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather service.
The highest chance of rain occurs on Tuesday at 75 percent. The odds decrease each day following, with a 50 percent chance on Wednesday, and a 30 percent chance on Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
The system moving through is not expected to have significant winds, but the cloud cover associated with the system will likely linger for the rest of the week.
National Weather Service meteorologist Reid Wolcott said that an increased number of traffic accidents is typically associated with rain, especially after long periods of time without it. “Oil builds up on the roads in long dry periods,” Wolcott said. Any coming rain is likely to create slick road conditions, he said.
A winter storm warning may be issued for the mountains later on in the week, but no such advisories have been issued yet, Wolcott said. Mount Charleston is slated to receive six to nine inches of snow on Tuesday alone, with additional snowfall expected in the days following.
Sunday’s expected high is 57 degrees, and the expected low is 42 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Monday’s temperature will drop slightly, with a high expected of 54 degrees, and a low of 42. High temperatures for the rest of the week are expected to be in the mid 50s, and lows are expected to be in the mid 40s.
