Las Vegas ‘flirting’ with freezing, below-average temps this weekend

Most, but not all, hope is lost for a white Christmas in Las Vegas.
There is a 20 percent chance for precipitation Friday, and we’ll be “flirting with freezing temps” through the weekend, National Weather Service meteorologist Chad Shafer said Tuesday — a combination that could bring flakes to the far west and south parts of the valley, Red Rock and Mount Charleston Christmas Day.
“We can’t completely rule it (snow) out, but it’s not looking likely.”
What is likely, Shafer explained, is that strong winds will bring “chilly” temperatures, ranging from seven to 15 degrees below normal Friday and Saturday. Temps will peak in the 40s with lows in the low-30s.
Las Vegas will see normal temperatures today — a high of 59 degrees and a low of 43 degrees — before the gradual cool down begins.
Mostly cloudy skies will make for a “dreary” day, but won’t bring rain, Shafer said.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
