Horsford visits flood-torn area of Mount Charleston

Rep. Steven Horsford visited the Rainbow Subdivision on Mount Charleston on Monday.
He toured the area with residents who showed him how large the flood channel swelled with last week’s rain. Horsford went to look at drainage issues and see what could be done to help residents.
In late July, residents were advised to boil water before consumption after rivers of water, debris and mud tore through the area. Utility lines also were damaged and the floods caused millions of dollars of damage.
On Friday, Gov. Brian Sandoval visited the area.
“The other thing I’m concerned about is if it does happen again, it will be worse,” he said.
U.S. Forest Service officials estimated it could take up to five to seven years for vegetation to grow back in the area.
