Flash flood warning for Mount Charleston, NW valley
August 1, 2014 - 1:33 pm
A flash flood warning has been issued for Mount Charleston and the far northwest portion of the Las Vegas Valley.
There is currently a storm east of the Rainbow Canyon area where flooding occurred earlier this week, National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Stumpf said.
The water will flow down along Kyle Canyon Road and towards the northwest portion of the valley, between I-215 and the U.S. 95, Stumpf said.
Much of the rain is falling in the area burned by last summer’s Carpenter 1 Fire, Stumpf said. The burned area is problematic because rain that falls there, it runs straight off because of the lack of plants to slow the flow.
“The smallest amount of rain can cause flooding,” said Stumpf.
The current warning will remain in place until 4:15 p.m.
