First 100-degree temps of year could hit Las Vegas Friday

Dust off your tank tops and Daisy Dukes, everyone.

Las Vegas will see its first hundred-degree temperatures of the year this weekend, the National Weather Service predicted Wednesday morning.

As early as Friday, the NWS Las Vegas station at McCarran International Airport can expect triple-digit temps that will climb their way to 104 degrees by Sunday, meteorologist Dan Berc said.

It’s been “abnormally cool” the past two-and-a-half weeks, meteorologist Clay Morgan said, explaining why it may seem like these temperatures are coming later than usual.

Instead of a gradual increase in temperatures, we are experiencing a swift change.

On average, Las Vegas sees triple-digit temps about May 26, but they have come as late as June 30, Morgan said.

“We’re pretty close to average.”

Until then, Berc says it will be “a typical May day.”

The valley can look forward to partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-90s Wednesday, with a low around 69 degrees overnight, Berc added.
