Dust advisory issued for Tuesday

Look for more dust and wind Tuesday in the Las Vegas Valley.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality issued a dust advisory in a Monday news release. Residents and construction operators should prepare for the possibility of blowing dust starting Tuesday afternoon through the evening.

Wind speeds of 25 miles per hour and gusts up to 40 miles per hour are expected, according to the National Weather Service and weather models used by the county department.

Unhealthy levels of dust are not occurring, the news release stated, but construction sites and other outlying ares are advised to take precautions in preventing blowing dust.

The windy conditions could aggravate respiratory diseases and the county suggests children and those with respiratory diseases to stay indoors. To help keep the dust down, officials also recommend to drive slowly on unpaved roads, avoid shortcuts across vacant lots, ride off-road vehicles in approved areas outside the valley, fence off or properly cover barren property, limit outdoor activity, keep windows closed and change any dirty indoor air filters.

The weather service predicts a mostly sunny Tuesday with a high near 70 degrees and breezy southwest winds. The day is expected to end with partly cloudy conditions and a low of 49 degrees.
