Cold temps expected New Year’s Eve
Whether you’re ringing in the new year on the Strip or at home Thursday, you’ll want to be bundled up.
Temperatures in Las Vegas will stay about 7 degrees below average through the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast high on Wednesday will be 49 degrees, and on New Year’s Eve, 50 degrees, meteorologist Reid Wolcott said. Normal for this time of year is 56 degrees.
Locals and the hundreds of thousands of tourists will have to bear overnight temperatures in the low 30s until the weekend, Wolcott said.
“There’s a fairly decent shot winds will die off in the central valley, which would be good for fireworks,” he said. “But the potential is there for some breezy conditions overnight. It could really go either way.”
Those in town for the 2014 holiday may remember similar circumstances, when a chance for snow loomed over the valley and freezing temps stole the show.
“We have a little system in central Nevada that will cool us down Friday,” Wolcott said, with an expected high of 47. But there’s no chance of rain, and skies will be mostly sunny.
