Two dead in fiery west Las Vegas crash
Two people died in a fiery single vehicle crash Saturday night in west Las Vegas.
The crash occurred around 11:20 p.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Westwind Road. The driver, an 18-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 60-year-old man, died. Their identities have not yet been released.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the driver of a 2006 Chrysler 300 was driving east on Charleston when she tried to pass another vehicle, lost control and veered off the road. The Chrysler struck a streetlamp post, which got severed from its mount and caught fire.
Police said in a news release that both the Chrysler and streetlamp post continued east on the road until reaching the Tap House Bar parking lot where the car stopped behind two vehicles. The two cars were significantly burned from the fire.
The man and woman in the Chrysler were trapped inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Their deaths marked the 113th and 114 traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
The crash remains under investigation.
