Las Vegas police have arrested the driver of a car they say hit a boy Monday, which led to the closure of westbound lanes of Owens Avenue near Lamb Boulevard.
A boy, who police said is in fifth grade, told police he was crossing Owens near the intersection at Linnbaker Lane when he was hit by a car about 3:40 p.m.
He was taken to University Medical Center by Las Vegas Fire Department with a broken femur and minor head injuries. His injuries are deemed serious because of his age, police said.
Police said the intersection where the boy was struck does not have a marked crosswalk.
The woman who was driving the car has been booked on charges of suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said.
Metro’s fatal detail has been called to the scene.
In a separate incident in the Las Vegas Valley, a girl was struck about five minutes before the boy was hit.
Police said an 11-year-old girl was hit by a two-door, silver sedan on Cimarron Road at Sierra Rim Drive, near Elkhorn Road. She was taken to Centennial Hills Hospital with minor injuries.
