A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries when they were struck by a vehicle in the central Las Vegas Valley early Friday.

The crash happened about 2 a.m., when a 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross Flamingo Road outside of a marked crosswalk near Escondido Street, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The victim was gravely injured. Metro Lt. Jesse Roybal said police detectives who investigate fatal crashes were called to the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said. The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and did not appear to be impaired.
