Northwest 215 Beltway work targeted for mid-July start

Bids will soon be considered for the intersections of Lone Mountain Road and the 215 Beltway and Ann Road at the 215, and an overpass at Centennial Parkway, said Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown.
Since Brown held an open house Sept. 10 at Mountain Crest Park, 4701 N. Durango Drive, area residents have been clamoring for news of when the interchanges will come to fruition.
“All of the residents in Providence are looking forward to the Centennial bridge, so that their kids can walk to the high school rather than be bused back and forth,” said Michael P. Smith, an area resident.
Brown said the bids opened the week of April 12, and he estimated the contract would be awarded about this time, mid-May. Construction will likely begin mid-July, and it’s expected to be an 18-month project with costs running about $100 million, he said.
The project consists of three components: two intersections at Lone Mountain and Ann roads and a dedicated overpass at Centennial Parkway. There was no indication of the order in which those would be tackled.
Similar to areas where the 215 Beltway goes through Summerlin, the northwest highway will be dug down, but “the existing beltway will be kept open while a lot of the work is being done. It’s long-awaited,” Brown said. “(Once the bids are in) they have to make sure and check all the figures, the contractor’s and subcontractor’s licenses, and as soon as they say, ‘A-OK to go,’ then they stick it on our agenda, we approve it, (issue) a notice to proceed, and they can get digging. … They’ll try to plan the project to cause the least disruption.”
