New traffic light to begin operating in west Las Vegas Valley

A new traffic signal will be switched on Tuesday morning at Desert Foothills Drive and Desert Sunrise Road in Summerlin, Las Vegas city officials said.

Red lights will flash during the first day of operation, acting as a four-way stop so drivers can get used to the new signal, city spokesman Jace Radke said. The signal will fully function by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The signal was designed, built and funded by the Howard Hughes Corp. as part of an agreement with the city to develop Summerlin, Radke said.

The new signal is expected to improve safety at this intersection, which sees about 15,000 vehicles daily, along with lots of pedestrians and bicyclists, Radke said.
