Motorcyclist critically injured in Saturday night accident

A motorcyclist was critically injured after colliding with two vehicles late Saturday night near Charleston Boulevard and Apple Drive, according to Las Vegas police.

Witnesses said a prior accident just before 10 p.m. had caused a light pole to collapse and block two of the three westbound lanes on Charleston. The driver of a 2003 Honda Civic, not involved in that accident, was directing traffic around the light pole into the open lane.

Frederick Carapel, 19, was traveling at high speed on a 2007 Honda CBR motorcycle on Charleston Boulevard when he struck the Honda Civic.

Carapel was ejected from the motorcycle and slid on the asphalt, striking a 2004 Hyundai Sonata.

He was transported to University Medical Center Trauma in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

The collision remains under investigation by police.
