A 20-year-old man driving a scooter died Tuesday morning after colliding with a pickup truck near Lake Mead Boulevard and and D Street.

The collision occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday. According to police, the 2002 Chevrolet pickup was making a left turn from Lake Mead Boulevard onto D Street when the 2012 Zhenhau Zh motorized scooter, which was traveling east on Lake Mead, hit the front passenger side of the truck.

The driver was thrown from the scooter, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

This was the 71st traffic related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2013.
