Highway 93 north of Las Vegas reopens after truck fire

Nevada Highway Patrol closed down U.S. Highway 93 north of Interstate 15 Saturday afternoon because of a burning truck loaded with chemicals.

The fire was reported at 12:30 p.m. across from the Love’s Travel Stop just off I-15 and involved a semi tractor-trailer full of hazardous potassium nitrate material.

Trooper Jeremie Elliott said potassium nitrate does not react well with water and is combustible. Semi-trucks at the gas station were evacuated by Nevada Highway Patrol due to the hazardous material.

Clark County Fire Department was also at the scene to monitor the fire.

U.S. Highway 93 was closed in both directions but was reopened to traffic before 3 p.m.
