Coroner: Bicyclist killed in Eastern Avenue crash ID’d

Police are investigating the death of a bicyclist that was hit by a SUV on Eastern Avenue, near Sunset Road Saturday night.

The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the bicyclist as 19-year-old Kenn Merlos-Salcido of Las Vegas.

Just before 7 p.m., Merlos-Salcido was riding a bicycle, turned onto Eastern from Sunset and was struck by a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Witness statements obtained by police indicate the SUV was headed south on Eastern in the left travel lane and struck him as it entered the intersection.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel.

This is the 101st traffic death in the Las Vegas police department’s jurisdiction in 2013.
