Las Vegas is still reeling after tragedy on the Strip.
Parts of South Las Vegas Boulevard could be shut down for days after a mass shooting at Route 91 music festival left at least 59 dead and 525 wounded. The shooter, Stephen Paddock, had 23 guns in his Mandalay Bay hotel room on the 32nd floor. Authorities found 19 additional firearms in his Mesquite home. Paddock shot and killed himself as police entered his hotel room.
People came out in droves to donate blood for victims, so much so that people were being turned away. Regardless, people waited in excess of eight hours to donate blood. United Blood Services will open at 9 a.m. to continue taking donations at its two locations.
The identities of victims have slowly been released. Clark County authorities have opened the Las Vegas Convention Center to assist with information and identification of victims. The center is operating 24 hours a day with help from police, firefighters and the coroner’s office.
Vigils for the victims were held throughout the valley. Locals and tourists gathered in front of Las Vegas City Hall, the International Church of Vegas and the chapel at Nellis Air Force Base to pay their respects to the growing number of victims.
