Motorcyclist killed in southwest Las Vegas crash

Updated May 25, 2020 - 11:50 am

A motorcyclist was killed Monday morning in a fiery crash in southwest Las Vegas, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

A man was driving a three-wheeled Can-Am motorcycle eastbound on West Roy Horn Way when he ran a red light at South Durango Drive, over the 215 Beltway, just before 9 a.m., Trooper Travis Smaka said.

The motorcycle was struck by a Kia Sorento traveling on South Durango Drive.

“The rider, an adult male in the Can-Am, was thrown from the vehicle, and the vehicle did become fully engulfed in the fire,” Smaka said near the scene.

The driver of the Can-Am died at the scene. The driver of the Sorento was not injured and was cooperating with investigators, Smaka said.

South Durango Drive was closed in both directions at the beltway as of 11:30 a.m., and the closure was expected to continue into the afternoon. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes.
