DUI suspected in fatal crash in southwest Las Vegas

Updated November 28, 2019 - 7:54 pm

A 32-year-old California woman was killed in a crash on Thanksgiving morning after a suspected DUI driver ran a red light in southwest Las Vegas, police said.

The crash was reported at 8:35 a.m. at South Durango Drive and West Russell Road, east of the 215 Beltway, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jeff Stuart.

The woman was heading south on Durango in a 2013 silver Nissan Sentra when a driver, heading west on Russell in a silver 2008 Nissan Pathfinder, blew through the intersection and struck her vehicle, Stuart said. The woman died at the scene, and a 12-year-old girl suffered minor injuries and was taken to UMC’s pediatrics unit.

The 27-year-old driver of the Pathfinder, Nathaniel Postelle III, suffered head injuries and was taken to UMU’s trauma unit. Police suspect the driver was impaired at the time of the crash, according to a Metro press release.

The crushed sedan, its air bags deployed, sat in the intersection for nearly five hours Thursday during the investigation. The damage indicates the car was hit on its driver’s side.

The victim will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office once her family has been notified.

The collision marks the 93rd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction.

A previous version of this story had the wrong age of the deceased woman, which was reported incorrectly by the Metropolitan Police Department.
