Car crashes into utility pole, causes power outage in southwest Las Vegas Valley

Updated March 21, 2017 - 8:14 pm

More than 2,100 people were without power in the southwest valley Tuesday after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole, Las Vegas police said.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. near the Jones Boulevard-Rochelle Avenue intersection, just south of Flamingo Road, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Steve Summers said.

“Impairment may be a factor,” he said.

The vehicle’s driver was taken to University Medical Center. Power was restored by about 7:30 p.m.

The crash was the second of the day that caused a significant power outage. Another crash early Tuesday temporarily left about 3,000 without power in the south valley.
