North Las Vegas police arrest man after fatal hit-and-run crash

Updated September 24, 2024 - 8:52 pm

A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash Monday has turned himself into North Las Vegas police.

Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, police received a tip about a truck parked at a business in the 100 block of Gibson Road in Henderson and impounded it, according to a news release.

Two hours later, the driver of the truck, who police identified as 27-year-old Justin Marr, turned himself in at the police department’s records bureau. Police took Marr into custody and discovered he had an active DUI warrant.

A woman was struck and killed just before 9:15 p.m. Monday in the area of Civic Center Drive and Webb Avenue, according to a news release. Officers found an unresponsive adult woman suffering from serious injuries. She was later declared dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that a white Chevrolet box-style work truck was northbound on Civic Center from Owens Avenue when it left the roadway, went onto the east sidewalk, and struck the woman. The vehicle then fled the scene, going northbound on Civic Center.

Minutes later, a second hit-and-run crash was reported involving the same white box-style work truck on Tonopah Avenue and Arthur Street. No one was injured in the second crash.

Investigators say they believe impairment to be a factor.

Marr has been booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center for his DUI warrant, and is facing charges of duty to stop at the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, and other traffic-related offenses.

The identification of the deceased, along with the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Anyone who may have information about this crash or the vehicle involved is urged to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385 -5555.
