North Las Vegas finance director retires after serving 4 years

Updated August 25, 2017 - 7:48 pm

Darren Adair retired after serving four years as finance director for North Las Vegas, helping guide the cash-strapped city toward solvency.

Adair stepped down in July, and city officials are seeking a replacement, city spokeswoman Delen Goldberg said Friday.

North Las Vegas was on the brink of bankruptcy when Adair was hired in October 2013, but he managed to help boost the city’s credit rating and erase a long-term deficit that had peaked at $152 million.

Adair’s salary was $121,634 in 2016, plus $76,000 in extra pay and benefits, according to Transparent Nevada.

Former Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat this year on the North Las Vegas City Council, had claimed on Twitter that Adair was still drawing a paycheck from the city.

Goldberg said Adair has not received a city paycheck since retiring, and is not receiving any pension from the state.
