Blitz Boba beverage truck sells smoothies, Thai teas
When people ask for the owner of Blitz Boba, a boba beverage truck based in North Las Vegas, most are surprised that he is 24. Randall Kapuno started the business in 2016 with his high-school sweetheart of seven years, Tricia Pineda, who is also 24.
“I’m pretty sure we’re the youngest truck owners in Las Vegas,” he said.
He handles the business operations, while Pineda handles social media, Kapuno, of east Las Vegas, said.
Kapuno started Blitz Boba because he didn’t want to work in retail anymore, he said, and wanted to create a business “within his reach.” Kapuno named the truck for “League of Legends” video game character Blitzcrank.
Blitz Boba sells smoothies and Thai and milk teas, all served with boba, a Taiwanese tea-based drink that’s served with tapioca balls. The most popular drinks are the oreo taro milk tea and the mango smoothie, which cost $5-$6.
Drinks are based on different parts of the world. Horchata stems from Mexico; coconut Thai tea is rooted in Thailand; and “Sagoba” comes from the Philippines. Kapuno said that they eventually might sell food.
The black-and-yellow, video game-inspied truck can be found at car dealerships and community events across the valley. It is typically at UNLV from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Kapuno said they always play music and get out to dance with customers.
“I just love people, and I think it’s cool to hang out with customers,” he said.
